?? How It Works
The square main drain is located at the deepest part of the pool floor.
It is connected to a suction line leading to the pool pump.
The pump pulls water through the drain and sends it through filters, heaters, and sometimes chemical feeders before it's returned to the pool via inlets.
Most systems balance suction between the skimmers (surface water) and main drain (bottom water).
Modern designs use dual main drains (or more) spaced apart to reduce entrapment risk (suction accidents).
