Alum is a chemical used in pools mainly as a water clarifier. Uses: Clears Cloudy Water: Alum helps remove fine particles that make pool water look cloudy. These tiny particles are too small to be caught by the filter alone. Flocculant Action: Alum causes small dirt, dust, and debris particles to clump together into larger clumps (called floc), which then sink to the pool bottom. Easy Cleaning: Once the floc settles, it can be easily vacuumed out of the pool. Emergency Cleaner: Often used when the pool water becomes very dirty after storms, heavy use, or algae treatments.
